Exhibition stand construction Essen

Your exhibition presence at Messe Essen – custom stand design and full-service support from the first sketch to dismantling

Your ideal exhibition stand partner for Messe Essen

Messe Essen is a very different venue today than it was ten years ago. Since its modernization in 2019, 18 smaller, partly two-storey exhibition halls have been transformed into eight large halls on a single level, offering 110,000 square metres of exhibition space plus 20,000 square metres of outdoor exhibition areas. For exhibitors, that means shorter distances, ground-level deliveries, and no freight elevators.

There is also one important fact that many exhibitors are unaware of: since the redevelopment, double-deck exhibition stands are permitted in all halls in Essen. If you need more space within a limited footprint, for example a meeting room above the exhibition area or storage space on an upper level, Essen is one of the easiest exhibition venues in Germany for this type of solution. Not every venue offers that flexibility.

From our headquarters in Monschau, near Aachen, Essen is just over an hour and a half away. That means we attend construction meetings, supervise stand installation, and can quickly provide support if anything is needed during the exhibition. At Messe Essen, we have built stands ranging from 32 to 60 square metres, from a unique concrete-built concept to a modular rental stand with a premium appearance. The right approach for you depends largely on how frequently you exhibit.

Successful Exhibiting at Leading Trade Fairs in Essen

  • E-world energy & water: E-world brings together professionals from the energy and water sectors, an audience focused on contracts and supply security rather than stand design. Our approach reflects this: robust construction, practical technical facilities, and meeting spaces where confidential discussions can take place comfortably.

  • SHK+E: In the sanitation, heating, and air-conditioning industry, products are touched, tested, and compared. We rely on real materials and cutaway models rather than graphics alone, complemented by clearly separated consultation areas. At a trade fair of this kind, discussions tend to last much longer than a few minutes.

  • Security: Security and building technology depend on live demonstrations. Stands require spaces where systems can operate and be explained without blocking visitor traffic. Eye-catching LED displays provide visibility from a distance, while demonstration areas support meaningful business conversations.

  • Infratech: Infrastructure and civil engineering exhibitors often bring some of the heaviest exhibits found in exhibition halls. Our project for Betonwerk Bieren was showcased here, featuring more than three tonnes of concrete furniture. The ground-level access and high floor load capacities of Messe Essen were essential prerequisites for making the project possible.

Two Projects, Two Completely Different Challenges

An Exhibition Stand Made of Concrete – Betonwerk Bieren at Infratech

The brief could be summed up in four words: “Stand out from the competition.”

Betonwerk Bieren from Bad Oeynhausen, part of the Erdbrügger Group, manufactures wastewater systems and precast concrete components, an industry where exhibition stands are traditionally rather functional and understated.

Our solution was to build the stand from the product itself. Across 60 square metres, we created furniture made from real concrete: a reception counter and standing table bridges, custom-manufactured and weighing more than three tonnes in total. Installation therefore became a project in its own right rather than a minor detail.

Instead of suspending advertising banners, we suspended concrete manholes with connection openings. Anyone viewing the stand from a distance immediately understood what the company produced without reading a single word.

An open exhibit wall with illuminated mountings displayed floating, removable 3D models framed between two wooden columns within a concrete structure. Visitors could remove the models and examine them by hand. Making this possible required close coordination between several manufacturers.

Rather than using a conventional rear wall, we designed a curved feature wall with an integrated LED video wall. During the stand party, it displayed music videos accompanied by a sound system mounted on the suspended truss structure. A concrete manufacturer with the loudest stand in the hall was never part of the original plan, but it ended up being the result.

The stand also exists as a digital twin, allowing visitors to explore the project through a 360-degree virtual experience.

Premium Appearance Within a Rental Concept – ExxonMobil at PV Live

The briefing contained a contradiction.

ExxonMobil wanted real metal wall surfaces for the presentation of its premium Mobil 1 brand, allowing workshops and specialist dealers to see and feel quality firsthand. At the same time, the stand needed a high proportion of rental components, be reused at multiple exhibitions throughout the year, and allow rapid installation and dismantling. Genuine materials and rental systems do not usually go hand in hand.

Our solution was to use thin metal infill panels integrated into the proven B62 rental aluminium frame system. Visually, the result was real metal. Economically, it remained a rental stand.

Within an area of 32 square metres, we incorporated a 7 × 4 LEDSkin display wall directly into the metal structure, along with a custom-made reception counter featuring a three-dimensional logo, integrated lighting, and lockable storage space. The illuminated 3D Pegasus logo was mounted without requiring holes in the wall, another important requirement for a rental solution.

One of the most successful details was located on the left-hand side of the stand: an industrial-style shelving unit displaying miniature Formula 1 cars, helmets, and oil containers beneath the campaign slogan “Poetry of Motion.” Standing in front of it felt less like being at a trade fair and more like being inside an exceptionally well-equipped garage.

The stand was designed as a modular system that could function as an inline stand, peninsula stand, or mirrored configuration with a storage cabin. Built for one exhibition, but planned for many.
